Analyzing Microplastic with ECOTON
Have you heard about microplastics? Microplastics are small plastic particles less than 5 millimeters in diameter—about the size of a sesame seed or smaller. They're a major environmental concern due to their widespread presence and potential impact on ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. The potential danger that microplastics—though small in size—pose to humans and ecosystems has motivated the students of SMA Islam As Sakinah to conduct a deeper analysis on the issue. In collaboration with ECOTON, the students learned how to collect samples from various sites and conducted research based on their findings. They were divided into four main groups: Air and leaf microplastics Water microplastics Biotic sampling – searching for invertebrates in small rivers as indicators of water quality Refill initiatives and community surveys regarding plastic usage.
